EVER FEEL LIKE YOU NEED SOMETHING BUT CAN’T FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS UNTIL YOU HEAR IT? THE FRESH UPDATE ON NEW WAVE DANCE THAT RAPH PARPEX HAS BEEN DISCREETLY PRODUCING CUTS THROUGH THE FAT IN A WAY WE DESPARATELY MISSED, WITHOUT REALIZING IT UNTIL NOW
February 6th, 2014. We’ve been interested in Raph Parpex’s music for some time now, as he’s soundtracked projects for VMAN and hinted at a debut album, until he finally released one a couple days ago… and we’re supremely satisfied. RPX, out now on iTunes is a breath of fresh air for those of us who were getting a little antsy for some kind of glam dance reinvention, and/or for something very, very French. The album’s first single, “Now She’s Dancing”—the video for which we get to premiere here on VMAGAZINE.com today!—matches the song’s bleakness, and its emotional depth. In it, above, partygoers wear masks that aren’t quite scary, but aren’t quite warm either, entering the uncanny valley: more disturbing than some slasher-film gore. In the end, the video is an upbeat one, perfect for a polished gem of a song that’s both ice-cold and solidly sparkling.
